TexTreasures Grant Awarded to the Austin History Center
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) awarded a $12,889 TexTreasures grant to the Austin History Center, Austin Public Library, for the purpose of digitizing the complete Hubert Jones collection of 471 glass plate negatives. Hubert Jones, an Austin resident and University of Texas Professor, donated the glass plates in the 1950s. The Hubert Jones collection compliments the Austin History Center’s existing 19th century photograph collection and includes portraits and examples of the style of dress at that time. The extremely delicate nature of glass plate negatives has hitherto made these images unavailable to the public. The TexTreasures funded digitization will finally allow patrons access to these unique images from our local history.
