Meet the Author, Ron Braithwaite

book covers

Meet the Author, Ron Braithwaite at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30 at the Faulk Central Library, 800 Guadalupe St., in the 2nd floor events area for a discussion of his two novels about the conquest of Mexico -- Skull Rack and its sequel Hummingbird God. In his own words, Braithwaite “discovered that few, if any, English-language novels, highlighting the Conquest of Mexico from the Spanish point of view, have been written. Would it be possible to write an English-language novel on the Conquest of Mexico that will actually attract a significant number of American readers? In the case of my novels, Skull Rack and Hummingbird God, the basic history is documentable. Also, when departing from history, I have relied heavily on personal experiences and the experiences of acquaintances.” A book signing will follow the discussion and light refreshments will be available. The event is free and open to the public. For more information please call 512-974-7400 or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library.

About the Author
Ron Braithwaite was born in California and educated in the California school system. He graduated from the University of California, Riverside, with a degree in Zoology in 1965. He graduated from the Medical School at the University of California, Irvine in 1969 and went on to study pathology, completing his residency at the University of California, San Diego in 1974. From there, Braithwaite went into the Navy where he spent two years as a staff Pathologist at the Navy Hospital in Oakland, California. Then, he followed his Southern instincts and relocated to Lafayette, Louisiana. There, he practiced in a four hundred-bed hospital for twenty years, eventually rising to the rank of Chief of Pathology. Braithwaite then moved to a ranch in South Texas, directly on the Rio Grande, where he has remained ever since. Following his retirement from Medicine, living on the border of Coahuila and with a lifelong fascination with Mexico, his thoughts turned to the Conquest of Mexico and he decided to write.
