Austin Public Library Foundation Recipient of a Special Gift of $25,000
from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation
The Austin Public Library Foundation was truly thankful this year, as immediately before Thanksgiving we received $25,000 in additional funding from The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. A gift of this caliber makes it possible for the Austin Public Library Foundation to continue to work to strengthen Austin’s libraries. “We recognize this is a particularly challenging time for our nonprofit partners given the current economic environment. We hope this gift and others like it in our Austin community demonstrate how grateful we are for the commitment of organizations like the Austin Public Library Foundation and for its impact in our community,” said Zeynep Young, Portfolio Director - Texas, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. The gift will be used toward the continued growth of youth technology centers at the Austin Public Library, allowing all children equal access to technological resources.
For almost ten years, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has supported the Austin Public Library Foundation and the Austin Public Library by equipping and staffing ten Michael & Susan Dell Wired for Youth kids-only computer centers at Austin Public Library locations in low-income neighborhoods throughout the city. These were funded through a challenge grant from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation to the Austin Public Library Foundation. Designed to bridge the digital divide, the Centers host on average over 100,000 visitors between the ages of 8 and 18 each year.
