Howson Branch Closing for Renovation
Howson Branch, Austin Public Library located in west Austin at 2500 Exposition will close on May 18, 2009 for renovation. The renovation work will include a re- roofing project that will incorporate a “Cool Roof” with high reflectivity and a “Rain Water Harvesting System” for irrigation, these systems are two of the Green Building provisions to be incorporated into the scope of the project. In order to prepare for the re-roofing project an asbestos abatement will be necessary. The building will need to be sealed and closed to allow a negative pressure zone to be created for the abatement process. Following completion of the roof replacement, an interior remodel of the facility will be carried out to include new finishes, a new furniture/shelving layout, additional electrical circuits, enhanced internet conductivity, mechanical improvements, and provision of an automated door to enhance accessibility. The Austin Public Library is working to keep the project on track so that Howson Branch can reopen for community use on Saturday, December 5, 2009. For library service in the area customers are invited to go to the newly renovated Faulk Central Library, 800 Guadalupe which will open its doors on April 15, as well as, the nearby Yarborough Branch 2200 Hancock Dr. Please visit www.cityofaustin.org/library or call 974-7400 for additional information.
