Austin History Center Now Accepting Nominations for Mexican American Trailblazers Exhibit
The deadline has been extended until Saturday, October 31
The Austin History Center, Austin Public Library, encourages everyone in the community to submit nominations of Mexican Americans who, despite obstacles, courageously forged ahead and set an example for future generations in the Austin and Travis County area.
The Mexican American Trailblazers Nomination Form is available for download at www.cityofaustin.org/library/ahc/downloads/nomination_form.pdf. Nominations will be accepted for the following categories:
- Education
- Politics
- Business
- Social/Public Services
- Health/Medical
- Communication (Journalism/Media)
- Entertainment (Theater/Art/Music)
- Science/Technology
- Sports.
The Nomination Form must be submitted to Austin History Center Neighborhood Liaison Gloria Espitia by mail; 810 Guadalupe Street Austin, Texas 78701; e-mail, gloria.espitia@ci.austin.tx.us; or fax, 512-974-7483. The deadline for Trailblazer Nominations has been extended until Saturday, October 31.
After carefully reviewing the nominations submitted by the public, an impartial committee of five representatives from educational, cultural and historical backgrounds will select the individuals who will be honored in the Mexican American Trailblazers exhibit. Short oral histories, photographs, artifacts, and other archival material will document the lives and achievements of these notable Mexican Americans. The exhibit will be displayed at the Austin History Center from August 2010 to January 2011. There will also be a traveling exhibit which will begin its tour in September 2010 at the Mexican American Cultural Center and continue from there to other locations throughout Austin and Travis County.
