Leaf for a Leaf Presents: Help Protect the Oak Springs Preserve
Join Carmen D. Llanes, Natural Resources Coordinator of People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources (PODER), for a talk about the significance of the Oak Springs Preserve and how you can help maintain it at the Oak Springs Branch, 3101 Oak Springs Dr. on Monday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. The City of Austin bought the 5.9 acre parcel of land almost 3 years ago to protect a natural spring and some very large, old trees. The Oak Springs Preserve discussion is sponsored by the Austin Public Library’s Leaf for a Leaf Program.
The Leaf for a Leaf program promotes borrowing library books to reduce the number of trees that are cut down to make paper. Learn to improve the air we breathe, minimize environmental impact, and enhance your surroundings. The program also celebrates trees in the late fall and through early winter because it is the best time to plant them in Central Texas. We will be planting trees at several Branches of the Austin Public Library and hosting programs that will help you learn how to plant and care for trees. We'll also have a reading contest. The more books you read, the more Leaf for a Leaf trees will be planted. So what are you waiting for? Start reading and planting trees now!
The Austin Public Library Leaf for a Leaf program is made possible in part by a grant from Austin Energy and in cooperation with the Urban Forestry division of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. For more information please call 512-974-9920 or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library.
