AUSTIN PUBLIC LIBRARY OFFERS VARIETY OF BUSINESS DATABASES

The Austin Public Library offers several electronic databases that can help consumers, small business owners, and investors. All the databases mentioned in this press release can be accessed from all Austin Public Library locations except when noted.

ReferenceUSA: Search U.S. residential and business listings by name, address, phone number, company name, industry, geography, and other special selections. Details on businesses include toll-free and fax numbers, sales volume, number of employees, ticker symbols, and owner/executive names. You can print or download 50 records at a time to create contact lists.

Dow Jones Interactive: Get news, financial information, and company and industry reports in the Company & Industry section of Dow Jones Interactive. Access in-depth research through an archive containing more than 6,000 publications, including more than 1,300 global sources, many available in full text in the Publications Library. Find breaking news from Dow Jones and other newswires at the Business Newsstand. Search thousands of high-quality business Web sites in the Web Center.

FIS|online (Moody's): In-depth reports on both U.S. and international companies contain business descriptions (including product names), a history section detailing significant events since incorporation, descriptions of all capital stock (including voting and other rights), long-term debt descriptions (including terms and conditions) and a history of "as-presented" financial statements. Country Profiles are updated semi-annually.

Gale's Ready Reference Shelf: A directory and listing of associations, research centers, publishers, publications (ranging from newspapers and newsletters to periodicals and directories), databases, television and radio stations, and more.

The library has many additional databases of interest including full-text newspaper and magazine databases (Austin American-Statesman Archives, General Reference Center Gold, Infotrac Custom Newspapers, Electric Library), and additional directories (Ulrich's Periodical Directory, The Foundation Directory Online). A statistical database (Statistical Universe) and a database that covers Congress (Congressional Universe) are only available at the Faulk Central Library and the Austin History Center.

In addition, the Texas State Library and Archives offers many electronic databases that can be searched at any Austin Public Library. These include AcxiomBiz; Business Dateline; Business & Management Practices; Business Organizations, Agencies, and Publications Directory; Disclosure Corporate Snapshots; Economic Literature Index; Wilson Business Abstracts; WilsonSelect; and Worldscope.

Databases available remotely from your home or office with an Austin Public Library Card include General Reference Center Gold, Infotrac Custom Newspapers (which includes full-text articles from the Austin American-Statesman and selected Texas and national newspapers), Electric Library, netLibrary (electronic books), and Health Reference Center.
