Public Records are records of incidents or actions that are filed with a government agency and are open to public inspection. What records are considered public varies from state to state and county to county. It is estimated that about 25% of all public records are available online. It is usually necessary to request public records by mail or telephone or even to visit the office. Some web sites will charge a fee.
