The TexShare Card Program

A Library Resource Sharing
Program of the Texas State Library

TexShare allows registered users to have direct access to library materials
not available at their local public or academic libraries.

If you have been an Austin Public Library cardholder for at least two months and would like to have a TexShare Card that would allow you to borrow materials from the University of Texas, Austin Community College, and libraries outside Austin, then follow these simple steps:

  • Present your Library Card and photo ID at the circulation desk of any Austin Public Library location.
  • Receive your TexShare Card.
  • Visit participating library and complete requirements for receiving a borrower card.
  • Check out the materials you want.
  • Return borrowed materials to the lending library in person or by first-class mail.

If you are a cardholder from a TexShare participating library and would like to qualify for a free Austin Public Library Card, then follow these steps:

  • Visit or call your home library to find out what is required to be eligible for a TexShare Card. Participating libraries frequently require some months of activity in good standing.
  • Present your TexShare Card, current valid photo ID, proof of current address, and completed Austin Public Library Application Form at any Austin Public Library location.
  • Receive an Austin Public Library Card.
  • Borrow the materials you want.
  • Return the borrowed materials to the Austin Public Library.

Restrictions/Limitations: Regular Austin Public Library (APL) borrowing privileges, with the exception of Interlibrary Loan, will be granted to all TexShare card holders whose TexShare cards have not expired. Privileges do not include remote access to electronic databases under contract or restricted by licensing agreements.

Austin Public Library cards will expire on the same date as the customer's paper TexShare card (up to 1 year from the APL registration date), and must be renewed before privileges are restored.

Other Texshare policies.

For more information call the Austin Public Library's Customer Service Office, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (512) 974-7402 or visit the TexShare Web site.
