Descriptions
The 2 X 2 Reading List is a selection of 20 recommended books for children, ages two to grade two. Suggestions for the list are received from librarians, teachers, parents, students, and others.
The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
The Coretta Scott King Award is presented annually by the Coretta Scott King Task Force of the American Library Association's Social Responsibilities Round Table. Recipients are authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."
The Michael L. Printz Award is given to a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.
The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
The Pura Belpré Award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
The Tayshas High School Reading List, an incentive program designed for young adults in Texas, grades 9-12, that encourages reading books.
The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was established to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books.
The Texas Lone Star Reading List is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians to encourage students in grades 6, 7, or 8 to explore a variety of current books.
The Tomás Rivera Award is presented annually to the author of the most distinguished children's book that presents a view of Mexican Americans as a healthy and responsible community.
