GALLERY EXHIBIT Main Gallery Exhibit Opening
"Flutter" Exhibit runs through November 28
A new body of work by Connie Arismendi based on the exploration of healing through a contemporary perspective. Like the beating of the heart during times of great emotion or the flutter of butterfly wings, Arismendi has created two large scale installations that depict the emotional fluctuation between hope and anguish. This vision is intended to evoke feelings in the viewer that are traditionally associated with the altar or other spiritual spaces.
Love Reign O’er Me is an installation based on healing. It consists of a narrow bed surrounded by cut Mylar pieces that cascade from the ceiling. The viewer is invited to lie on the bed to view the artwork. The reigning/raining of love is conceptually linked to water and ritual cleansing. The bed is transformed into a raft that carries the loved one to a place of health where she emerges like a butterfly that has fought hard to shed the confines of its cocoon.
