Dertybird
Southern Rock
Since 2007, Dertybird has been ruffling its feathers in the Austin, Texas music scene. Here, the band has shaped its sound into a unique, yet familiar, style of Southern-Vinyl Rock that is delicately flavored with Crescent City Funk. Within just a few years, Dertybird has flown out of a pipe-dream and into a legitimate touring and recording band. They have proved themselves as a genuine Rock outfit with honest original songs and nothing but reverence for the art and music that have inspired them along their journey. Farther on the horizon for The Bird is much of the same as they focus on playing bigger, better venues and creating new music that will bring them back to The Nest to record a follow-up to Pure Analog. They hope to be releasing the next studio recording sometime in 2010.

Kalu James
Soul / Folk
Native Nigerian Kalu James may not look the part of an accomplished folk rock singer-songwriter, but the release of his second CD, "Dim the Lights," proved otherwise. Recorded in his home in Austin, Texas, Dim the Lights showcases Kalu's affecting lyrics with his unique style of vocal delivery. Kalu says, "Music is a journal for me. It's a way for me to express and chronicle my days. Some people have diaries. I have music. Instead of defining myself by putting my music in a box called a 'genre,' I consider it 'feel' music. I want to connect to people by letting them know how I feel. Maybe they feel that way, too, and it creates a link between us."

Los T-Birds
Conjunto
For over 30 years these gentlemen have performed with the best in Tejano, Conjunto, Blues, Jazz, R&B, and Country bands. The last 10 years they were, and continue to be, very successful as members of Los Texas Wranglers. They formed Los T-Birds in June 2007 to expand their musical talents into a more home-style type of Conjunto. Being from Austin, Texas, where bands need to be diversified to fit in, Los T-Birds do Country, Blues, and Rock n Roll oldies too. Los T-Birds have a true Austin sound with focus on strong traditional conjunto. Anyone who has seen Los Texas Wranglers will be pleased to hear Los T-Birds.

BettySoo
Folk Rock
With her latest album, Heat Sin Water Skin, BettySoo adds some welcome edge and grit to the heartbreaker ballads and bell-pure vocals she’s come to be known for. Teamed with seasoned producer Gurf Morlix, BettySoo has made a record worth sitting up and paying attention to. Her vocals are striking, the players strong, the sound gripping, and the lyrics compelling. As for genre, she’s still nestled in the folk-rock world, but she is bringing something new to her listeners. “There’s a little gospel, some straight-ahead folk, a bit of twang, and maybe even a familiar oldie with a new twist. Be ready for a surprise.”

Dale Watson
Americana Country
Dale Watson has made a career out of defying contemporary country music standards. He’s remained tried and true to the spirit of authentic country giants like Johnny Cash, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, and in the process has grown into an artist equal in stature. Over his 25-plus year career, Dale has released one country classic after the next, while raising the roof with fiery performances at the smallest of honky-tonk dives to legendary music halls like The Grand Ole Opry. Following up his critically acclaimed 2007 release From The Cradle To The Grave, Dale released The Truckin’ Sessions: Volume Two. Through sharp songwriting and soulful baritone vocals, Dale captures both the humor and sadness of lives lived on the road, while imparting empathy for these mythic characters of America’s highways.

Hosea Hargrove
Blues
Hosea has played his rootsy style of blues in and around Austin for more than fifty years, schooling such notables as Bill Campbell and Jimmy Vaughan along the way. Don’t look for guitar pyrotechnics at a Hosea show, just straight form the soul simplicity that is the very definition of the blues. Hosea’s rich legacy of song is something that must be experienced. One of the best of his kind and one of the last of his kind, Hosea Hargrove is the real thing. |

Mike and the Moonpies
Honky Tonk
Mike and the Moonpies delivers the kind of country music we love - tear-in-our-beer, steel and fiddle laden honky tonk with a classic sensibility that keeps you company in a dark bar on a lonely and rowdy night. Fronted by Mike Harmeier, the quartet proves about as authentic as it gets, and to catch one of their shows at the Hole in the Wall is to experience Austin at it’s most essential. Harmeier’s tough twang settles like worn in leather, cut with a broken, aching drawl that splits the difference between George Strait and George Jones with a distinctive Texas flair.
