More than 12,000 expected Downtown for Dec. 2 seminar

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, the "Get Motivated" Seminar is scheduled at the Austin Convention Center and will bring more than 12,000 attendees for this one-day event.

Downtown employees and visitors will likely experience significant traffic issues from the influx of attendees. Expect unusually heavy Downtown traffic between 6:30 and 8 a.m.

As most of the expected attendees are from the Austin area, Get Motivated Seminars Inc. has scheduled 40 buses to help bring attendees to and from the downtown event. Event attendees are encouraged to use the free ongoing shuttle service to help alleviate some of the additional downtown traffic. Parking and ongoing free shuttles will be available from Barton Creek Mall, Highland Mall and the Delco Activities Center.

Buses will be at the malls beginning at 5 a.m. and will depart as they fill throughout the morning. Get Motivated will have signage directing attendees to the lots at Barton Creek Mall and the Delco Activities Center. At Highland Mall, shuttles will be located at Lots A, E, F, and G.

The Austin Convention Center Department has taken preemptive measures to minimize any impact on downtown employees. In addition to the free shuttles, the department has contacted downtown businesses, associations, parking garages and neighborhood associations to create awareness about the potential heavy traffic. Digital signage on major thoroughfares has been scheduled beginning Nov. 26, and additional signage will be in place on Dec. 2. Ongoing meetings have been held with numerous City departments and downtown businesses and associations to help prepare for this event.

The Get Motivated Seminar is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with the doors opening to attendees at 6:30 a.m. The event brings nationally-known celebrities and motivational speakers, such as General Colin Powell and Rudy Giuliani, to the facility.
