Cesar Chavez Street closure this weekend

As part of the Cesar Chavez Two-way Conversion Project, the City’s contractor will close Cesar Chavez Street from east of Lavaca to east of Congress on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. The closure will allow the contractor to install street light conduit in the Cesar Chavez Street/Congress Avenue intersection. The closure will be from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. both days.

The closure will include the Ann Richards (Congress Avenue) Bridge. Detour routes include Riverside Drive, Barton Springs, South First Street and Second Street. Motorists are urged to follow the detour signs for each closure.

Work on the Cesar Chavez Two-way Conversion Project will require at least one more weekend closure within the project area. Watch for further information. Motorists should be aware that final paving to smooth out the surface of the roadway will occur last. Please be patient while the contractor performs these important steps. The project is expected to reach completion in late summer.
