Crosswalk at Sandra Muraida Way to close temporarilyFor immediate release
Starting on Saturday, pedestrians who use the crosswalk near the base of the Pfluger Bridge to cross Cesar Chavez Street will be temporarily detoured. The crosswalk at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street and Sandra Muraida Way will be closed for four months starting on June 28. Pedestrians will be detoured one block west to cross Cesar Chavez Street at B.R. Reynolds Drive. The crosswalk closure will allow contractors working on the nearby Gables development to realign Sandra Muraida Way and build a new intersection, sidewalk and crosswalk. Paving of the newly aligned roadway will occur June 28 and striping will occur June 29. The traffic switch to the first new segment of Sandra Muraida Way at Cesar Chavez Street is scheduled to occur on the afternoon of June 30. While the developer removes the temporary road now in use and builds a roundabout, Sandra Muraida Way will only be open to southbound traffic. Roundabout construction will require the closure of northbound Sandra Muraida Way for approximately one month. Northbound Sandra Muraida Way traffic will be detoured north on San Antonio Street and west on W. Sixth Street. The southbound lane will remain open during this time.
