Municipal charter election results, Proposition 1 passes, Proposition 2 fails

In the November 4 Municipal Charter election, City of Austin voters approved Proposition 1, allowing the City Charter be amended to provide that the City Council appoint a City Auditor for a five-year term, during which term the City Auditor may only be removed by a vote of three-fourths of the City Council, and at the conclusion of the term, by a majority of the City Council. The unofficial vote tally on this proposition was 175,531 "for" and 71,286 "against."

Voters did not pass Proposition 2, which would have prohibited the City from entering into future agreements to provide financial incentives in connection with the development or redevelopment of property that includes one or more retail uses, and to stop the City from providing financial incentives under certain existing agreements in connection with the development or redevelopment of property that includes one or more retail uses. The unofficial vote tally on this proposition was 126,064 "for" and 136,609 "against."
