Return to What We Do

Recovering from a disaster is a long and difficult process for everyone. There are many phases that need to be coordinated to help families, the community, businesses, and the local economy recover.

The City of Austin Office of Emergency Management provides leadership for many recovery activities such as:

  • Assisting with city-wide recovery response coordination.

  • Compiling damage estimates and cost tracking.

  • Requesting outside assistance, if needed, from:
    • Mutual aid or interlocal agreements,
    • Private relief organizations, such as the American Red Cross,
    • State of Texas assistance, and
    • Federal assistance

  • Providing input on how to rebuild a better and stronger community in order to improve resistance to future disasters.

  • Review post-incident effectiveness of responses and plans.
