Preparing Austin for Pandemic FluView of the City of Austin Cityscape looking over Town Lake

A pandemic is a global disease outbreak. A flu pandemic occurs when a new virus emerges. People have little or no immunity, and there is no vaccine. The disease spreads easily from person-to-person, causes serious illness, and can sweep across the country and around the world very quickly. Pandemics are random, with a few happening every century. It is hard to know when a pandemic flu may strike or how severe it may be. Wherever and whenever it starts, everyone around the world is at risk.

The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department is planning and preparing for a possible flu pandemic. Because no one knows when a pandemic may strike, everyone must be prepared. Use the links and information on this site to help plan and prepare yourself, your family, your school, your business and your community.
