Temporary Concessions - help to enhance park services offered to patrons during peak times of usage throughout the year on parkland.
Temporary concession permits are issued on a request basis. To apply for a permit complete and submit a
application. Only one permit per park is allowed.
Permits will
not be issued for vending along the Hike and Bike Trail or on the Greenbelts. The department will no longer accept food or beverage concessionaire applications for Zilker Park.
Special Event concessions
With the exception of the
Trail of Lights and the
Halloween Trick or Treat Trail all of the larger special events held in parks are rentals. Please contact the event promoter to vend at these special events.
Trail of Light Vendor Selection
The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department is preparing for the 2007 Trial of Lights Festival. The festival dates are December 9-23, 2007. We will also be soliciting for December 2-January 1 vendor by the Holiday Tree. All interested vendors must submit the required documents by 2:00 pm October 30, 2007 as listed in the
attached memo.

Temporary Permits
The department issues temporary concession permits to vendors seeking to operate in a park for less than a year and do not require a permanent building. There are several requirements vendors must meet in order to become a temporary concessionaire
- Insurance
At the time a contract is signed, the vendor must provide a Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Austin as an additional insured party. Vendors are required to show proof of Comprehensive General Liability Insurance with a combined single limit of $1,000,000 per occurrence. Additional vehicle and Statutory workers compensation insurance may be required; this will be determined on a case by case basis.
- Other Permits
Health Permit - All food sales require a certificate from the Austin Health and Human Services - Travis County Health Department. Contact them at 972-5600 for more information on how to obtain this certificate.
Sales Tax - All vendors are required to have a State of Texas Sales and Use permit. Contact the State Comptroller's Office at 1-800-252-5555 for information on how to obtain this permit.
Copies of the health certificate and sales tax permit must be submitted at the time a contract is signed.
- Fees
The fee for 6 months at a district or metropolitan parks is $1,500; and $500 for all other parks. The fees will be paid in monthly installments over the first four months of the contract. The first installment will be due at the time a contract is signed.
Single Day Permits -
The Parks and Recreation Department issues single day permits to vendors wishing to set-up at (or outside of) a special event taking place in a park. The fee for a single day permit is $50.00 and the same requirements that apply to a temporary permit apply here.
Inflatables and Performing Artists in the Parks -
Parties wishing to have a moonwalk or inflatable apparatus on parkland during rentals are required to pay a $10.00 fee.
Performing artists are allowed to entertain in the parks provided they are registered with and approved by the Parks and Recreation Department. The fee for performing artists is $10.00 per day and permits may be purchased in 2 week increments. Individuals wishing to perform as artists or entertainers in the park must adhere to the following rules:
- Do not block sidewalks or in any way impede pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
- Do not set up entertainment area within 100 feet of an existing concession's main operating location.
- Do not set up at special events in the park without written permission of event organizer.
- Do not use amplified sound.
- Juggling of potentially hazardous materials or items such as knives or fire is prohibited.
- Any money exchanged must be a tip or a donation; the amount must be determined by the donor and must not be required by performer.
- Entertainers must carry a permit issued by the Parks and Recreation Department allowing them to perform in the park. This permit must be produced on request of any park employee charged with patrolling or supervising the park or by any citizen.
- Do not impede or interfere with the use of park facilities or scheduled activities.
A Concession Application or an Outdoor Private Fitness Class Pilot Application must be completed to obtain a permit.
