Austin Police Explorers

One of the most valuable things in the City of Austin’s future is our youth. Together we can make a difference that will continue to shape the landscape of our city for decades to come.

We believe that positive interaction between the police officers and youth of Austin will help to foster an atmosphere of mutual respect that will improve relations, reduce crime rates, lessen drug and gang involvement and create stronger community relations.

The Austin Police Explorer program is intended to show young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 and at a 9th grade level or higher the many career opportunities available in Law Enforcement. The Austin Police Department extends an open invitation to all area youth interested in a career in Law Enforcement.

Training areas include but are not limited to: Patrol Tactics, Forensics, Communications and Criminal Investigations. Exploring provides experiences to aid young people in their development in becoming responsible and caring adults. Leadership, ethical insight, and decision making are key skills that are taught.

In addition, this program offers the Explorers the ability to get involved in special events, participate in a ride along program, travel to different places around the state and nation to participate in competitions, and receive scholarships.
