how to make a safety plan

  1. Put aside money and clothes in case you have to leave home. Store them at a place away from the house, where you can get to them after you leave.
  2. Memorize the emergency phone number of the domestic abuse shelter.
  3. Tell someone you trust about the violence and set up a signal to get help.
  4. Keep important documents, like your identification, social security cards and birth certificates for you and your children, in a safe place.
  5. Have an extra key made for your car and home.
  6. Teach children emergency numbers.
