Shoal Creek Boulevard Re-Striping Options

Results of Shoal Creek Re-Striping Ballots

Background

On Sept. 29, 2005, after voting unanimously to remove the curb islands on Shoal Creek Boulevard, the Austin City Council directed staff to gather stakeholder input about how to re-stripe the roadway.

On Oct. 15, Public Works hosted a meeting at Murchison Middle School designed to identify stakeholder interests and re-striping options for the boulevard. Stakeholders of the Allandale and Rosedale neighborhoods and the cycling community were invited.

The purpose of the meeting was to:

  • Discuss various interests and re-striping options identified by stakeholders and staff.
  • Hear practices developed in other communities.
  • Vote to identify candidate re-striping options that meet the most interests of all users of the roadway.

Approximately 80 stakeholders attended the meeting alongside Public Works staff that facilitated the meeting.

The top two re-striping options from each of three groups at the meeting (residents living on Shoal Creek Boulevard, area residents, and cyclists) were selected for balloting purposes that day. Because there was overlap among the three groups' top options, four candidate striping options were identified for the Official Ballot, including two main options and two sub-options. Those four are listed on the Official Ballot alongside requests for additional information from stakeholders.

Distribution of the Official Ballot and questionnaire began Monday, Oct. 24. Most ballots are being delivered by hand within the Allandale and Rosedale neighborhoods. Ballots to cyclists are being mailed.

Eligibility to Participate in Ballot/Questionnaire
