The Cultural Arts Division (CAD) of the Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office provides leadership and management for the City’s cultural arts programs and for the development of arts and cultural industries as an economic development strategy on behalf of the City.

The Cultural Arts Division is responsible for the Cultural Arts Funding Programs, Art In Public Places Program, community based arts development, and programs to assist the development of music, film and creative industries in Austin, as well as initiatives designed to support and encourage the community’s unique cultural identity and vitality.Cultural Arts Division Logo

Join us for the People's Gallery 2010 Opening Reception
and Faces of Austin Premiere!

When: Friday, February 19, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Austin City Hall (301 W. 2nd Street)
Come celebrate Austin's creative talent! The annual People's Gallery exhibition features visual art on loan from Austin area artists, galleries, museums, and art organizations, displayed throughout the first three floors of City Hall. Please join the artists and City staff at this opening reception and be among the first to see the wonderful art on display. The "People's Choice" from the 2009 Exhibition will also be announced at this time.
During the reception, you can watch the short films selected for Faces of Austin, in City Council Chambers. Faces of Austin showcases films about Austin, by Austin filmmakers. After the premiere, the films will be availble to view on-demand on the video screens in the City Hall Atrium, as well as on the Channel 6 website.
Refreshments will be provided by Whole Foods Market and parking is free in the City Hall garage (bring your parking ticket inside for validation).

New Public Art Unveiled on 2nd Street
The artwork “La Fuente en Calle Segunda” by Roger Colombik & Jerolyn Bahm-Colombik, located at the intersection of Second and San Antonio Streets, was unveiled at a dedication ceremony February 3. It is the first of three sculptural environments the AIPP program has commissioned for "The Springs Project." Each will include water features and areas for seating along the 2nd Street District.
The 2nd Street District artwork is part of the City’s Great Streets Capital Improvement Program which is designed to create a more pedestrian-friendly downtown environment.

Survey Results: Weathering the Economic Storm
The results of this Cultural Arts Division survey, conducted in August 2009, are now available online! The survey was created to identify the impact of the current economic climate on individual creatives, nonprofit organizations, and for-profit creative industry businesses and to inform "Weathering the Economic Storm," a panel discussion presented as a part of the Next Level Speaker Series.

"Considering the Creative Ecology" Now Online!
Andrew Taylor's public presentation on Austin's Cultural Ecosystem is available to view online! Taylor gave his presentation June 24, 2009, at the Boyd Vance Theater as part of the Next Level Speaker Series.
