City of Austin seeks review panelists for the Cultural Arts Funding Programs

Individuals, arts professionals and organizations from every discipline and throughout the state are invited to submit applications for peer review panelists for the City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Funding Programs. Peer review panelists assist in evaluating applications for city cultural contracts, which are administered by the Cultural Arts Division of the City’s Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office.

Selected panelists’ primary responsibilities are to read contract applications and participate in public review panel meetings for one or two days each summer over a multi-year term. Panelists review and score each application based on pre-established criteria and their recommendations are forwarded to the City for consideration and possible funding.

Nominations for review panelists may be made by any arts organization or individual. Interested individuals may also nominate themselves. To qualify as review panelists, individuals should demonstrate the following qualifications:

• Knowledge of the arts. The individual should be a recognized expert in a given arts discipline(s) or field. If the applicant is not a professional, the applicant should demonstrate knowledge through experience as an arts scholar, board member, collector, philanthropist or other position related to the arts.
• Understanding of diversity within the arts: The applicant should also demonstrate an appreciation for the cultural, ethnic, aesthetic and artistic plurality in Austin and the state.
• Experience in the arts: The nominee should demonstrate a history of involvement in the arts either as an arts practitioner, manager, supporter or educator.
• Dedication to high standards. The applicant must be dedicated to the highest professional standards in their artistic discipline(s).

Each panel will include broad discipline representation and panelists from a variety of backgrounds, such as organization size, gender, ethnic background, and disability. The City is seeking nominations for panelists residing in Austin, the Central Texas region, Texas and other states.
