Cell phonesCell phones should not be put in your garbage cart because they may contain hazardous materials such as brominated flame retardants, lead, mercury and cadmium. You can dispose of cell phones safely by donating them to Ecology Action or the Wireless Foundation. You may also want to check with the dealer where you bought the phone. Several are set up to collect used phones for safe disposal or recycling.
Cereal boxes Cereal boxes and other boxboard can go in your 90-gallon blue Single Stream Recycling cart. If necessary, please flatten or cut down the boxboard to fit in the cart.
Ecology Action's downtown drop off center also accepts boxboard. Cereal boxes can also be used for composting in your backyard.

Cinder blocksSolid Waste Services cannot collect cinder blocks. Try taking ones that are in good condition to the Habitat for Humanity RE-store, where they will be reused. You may also be able to dispose of cinder blocks at local landfills for a fee.
Cleaning productsResidents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take leftover cleaning products free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Empty bottles should be rinsed three times. Use the rinse water like you used the product. If the bottles are made from #1 - #7 plastic, Pay-As-You-Throw customers can recycle them at the curb. Put them in your Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables.

Coat hangersSolid Waste Services cannot recycle coat hangers at the curb. Please place them in your garbage or ask your dry cleaner if they can reuse them.

ConcreteSolid Waste Services cannot collect concrete. You may be able to dispose of concrete at local landfills for a fee.
Confidential, or sensitive documentsSensitive paper documents may be shredded and then placed in your Single Stream Recycling cart. You can also watch local news for free events like Shred Day.
Construction Debris Solid Waste Services cannot collect construction debris. Try taking material in good condition to the Habitat for Humanity RE-store, where it will be reused. You may also be able to dispose of construction debris at local landfills for a fee.
Cooking Oil Small quantities of oil can be can be mixed with kitty litter, doubled bagged, and then placed in your garbage cart. You can also seal small quantities in a coffee can or similar container and place it in your garbage cart.
Household cooking oil and grease can also be taken to the City of Austin Household Hazardous Waste Collection facility located at 2514 Business Center Drive. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, noon to 6 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. till noon.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) Residents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take household quantities of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. CFLs can also be recycled at Ikea in Round Rock and at Home Depot stores.
