Facial tissue Facial tissue cannot be recycled in Solid Waste Services curbside recycling program. Please put it in your garbage cart.
Fax paper
Pay-As-You-Throw customers can be recycled in your Single Stream Recycling cart.
If you are not a Pay-As-You-Throw customer, consult your waste company or building manager about whether to put fax paper in your trash or in your recycling.
Ecology Action accepts paper at its downtown Austin recycling drop off center.
Fencing
Pay-As-You-Throw customers can set fence posts and rolled fencing out during their bulky item collection. Wooden fence posts must be nail free and bound together.
If you do not want to wait for your bulky item collection or if you are not a Pay-As-You-Throw customer, you may be able to take metal fencing to a metal recycler. Look in the yellow pages under "Recycling Centers" for a list.
You may also be able to donate fencing in reusable condition to the Habitat for Humanity RE-store. You may also be able to dispose of fencing at local landfills for a fee.
Fertilizers
Residents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take household quantities of fertilizers free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Avoid having to dispose of fertilizers by buying only what you need. Empty containers should be put in the trash.
Flammable liquids
Residents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take household quantities of flammable liquids free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Most empty containers should be put in the trash. Oil-based paint containers should also be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Avoid having to dispose of flammable liquids by buying only what you need.
Flooring
Pay-As-You-Throw customers can set rolled carpeting or wood planks out during their bulky item collection. Wooden planks must be nail free and tightly bound. Solid Waste Services cannot collect tiles.
You may also be able to donate flooring in reusable condition to the Habitat for Humanity RE-store. You may also be able to dispose of flooring at local landfills for a fee.
Fluorescent light bulbs
Residents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take household quantities of fluorescent light bulbs free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Food containers
Disposable food or take-out containers made of cardboard or Styrofoam are NOT recyclable (such as pizza boxes or egg cartons). Tupperware-type containers and plastic containers that contain baked goods, deli, or produce from the grocery store which are made of plastic #1 - #7 can be recycled in your Single Stream Recycling cart. Please rinse any food particles out of the containers before placing them in the cart.
Furniture
Pay-As-You-Throw customers can set furniture out during their bulky item collection.
You may also be able to donate furniture in good condition to a charitable organization or thrift store. You may also be able to dispose of furniture at local landfills for a fee.
