Sawdust Please seal sawdust in a plastic bag before putting it in the trash. This will help prevent employee injuries or litter problems.
Shampoo bottles Pay-As-You-Throw customers can recycle shampoo bottles that are made from #1 - #7 plastic at the curb. Put them in your Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables. Please rinse shampoo bottles three times before placing them in your cart.

Shoe boxes Shoe boxes can be recycled by placing them in your Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables. They can also be taken to Ecology Action's downtown drop off center for recycling, or compost them in your back yard.
Shredded Paper Pay-As-You-Throw customers can place shredded paper in their Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables, as long as the paper met the recycling guidelines before it was shredded.
Siding Solid Waste Services cannot collect siding. You may be able to dispose of it at local landfills for a fee.
Small branches Pay-As-You-Throw customers can "recycle" branches that are less than five feet long and three inches in diameter by setting them out in bundles tied with string or twine on their garbage day. If you use a small reusable container (no more than 33 gallons), make sure the branches don't protrude by more than 1 foot. Branches and other yard trimmings are made into mulch and Dillo Dirt®.
Do NOT put yard trimmings in plastic bags or you will have to pay extra to have them collected. Yard trimmings in plastic bags must be sent to a landfill.
Soap bottles Pay-As-You-Throw customers can recycle liquid and dishwashing soap bottles that are made from #1 - #7 plastic at the curb. Put them in your Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables. Please rinse product from the bottles three times before placing them in your cart.

Solvents Residents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take household quantities of solvents free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Avoid having to dispose of solvents by buying only what you need.
Empty solvent containers should be put in the trash.
Steel cans Pay-As-You-Throw customers can recycle steel cans at the curb with the exception of paint, solvent, adhesive containers, pesticide and herbicide containers. Put all other steel cans in your Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables.

"Sticky" notes Pay-As-You-Throw customers can recycle "sticky notes" by putting them in their Single Stream Recycling cart with other recyclables.

Stone Solid Waste Services cannot collect stones. You may be able to dispose of stones at local landfills for a fee.
Styrofoam Solid Waste Services CANNOT recycle Styrofoam at the curb. You may be able to donate Styrofoam peanuts to Mail Boxes Etc., or a similar store for reuse. If you dispose of Styrofoam peanuts in your trash, please seal them in a plastic bag first. This will prevent them from spilling on to the street when your trash is emptied. Large pieces of Styrofoam can be broken down, bagged and placed in your garbage cart.
