Affected Residents Advised to Continue to Boil Water

For Immediate Release – April 30, 2008

AUSTIN - The Austin Water Utility (AWU) is advising residents in affected area of the 24" water main break near West Mary and South 7th to continue to boil their water before consumption.

Residents affected are located on West Johanna Street between South Lamar and South 1st Streets, as well as one block of West Mary just east of South Lamar. Due to the break a water pipeline Monday morning, valves were turned off for repairs. The repairs have been made and water samples are currently being tested.

Residents should not use water for drinking, cooking or ice-making until AWU issues a notice that the water meets state and city standards. To ensure destruction of any harmful bacteria or other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice-making should be boiled and cooled before consumption.

The water should be brought to a rigorous boil and then boiled for two minutes. For more information, affected residents may call the Austin Water Utility Dispatch office at 972-1000.
