Boil Water Advisory Lifted for South Austin Residents
For Immediate Release – May 3, 2008
AUSTIN - The Austin Water Utility (AWU) has lifted the boil water advisory issued April 28
that affected approximately 80 residents in South Austin. Laboratory testing has confirmed that
water from taps in the area is safe to drink.
Residents affected were located on W. Johanna Street between S. Lamar and S. 1st Streets,
as well as one block of W. Mary just east of S. Lamar.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the City to notify affected customers
when municipal systems experience a loss of water pressure. The April 28 advisory was in response
to a loss of pressure in the area due to a break in a 24-inch water pipeline, which forced AWU to
turn off water service to the affected customers so that repairs could be made.
The 24-inch water pipeline is now back in service. The line was flushed, chlorine residuals
were checked, and water sample results were negative for any contamination.
For more information, affected residents may call the Austin Water Utility Dispatch at 972-1000.
