Boil Water Advisory Lifted for West Austin Residents
For Immediate Release – May 15, 2008
AUSTIN — The Austin Water Utility (AWU) has lifted the boil water advisory issued May 14 that affected approximately 200 residents
in West Austin. Laboratory testing has confirmed that water from taps in the area is safe to drink.
Residents affected were in the Woods at Westlake Heights Neighborhood and the Barclay Woods Neighborhood just southwest of Capitol
of Texas Highway (Loop 360) and north of Mopac (Loop 1). The area is bordered by Barclay Drive to the north, Real Catorce to the
south, the Barton Creek Greenbelt to the west, and Capitol of Texas Highway (Loop 360) to the east.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the City to notify affected customers when municipal systems experience a
loss of water pressure. The May 14 advisory was in response to a loss of pressure in the area due to a contractor who inadvertently
opened a valve during a routine tie-in operation at a nearby water pipeline.
The line was flushed, chlorine residuals were checked, and water sample results were negative for any contamination.
For more information, affected residents may call the Austin Water Utility Dispatch Office at
972-1000.
