Austin Water Honored as Exemplary Employer
For Immediate Release – June 10, 2009
Austin - The Austin Water Utility (AWU) will be honored with the Exemplary Employer Award by the Water Environment Association of
Texas (WEAT) during the City Council meeting on Thursday, June 11 at 5:30 p.m. The award recognizes a Texas employer that supports
and facilitates employee involvement and activities within WEAT and its parent organization the Water Environment Federation (WEF).
AWU's recognition is attributed to the many years it has provided leaders for both organizations, including the several officers
and committee members. "We recognize that the benefits of participation in professional organizations and work hard to provide
job flexibility and support for employee involvement," said Greg Meszaros, AWU Director.
"WEAT is proud to recognize Austin Water for the exemplary standard they set in supporting their employees," said Carol Batterton,
WEAT's Executive Director. "Because of that support, these individuals are able to give of their time, providing leadership and
dedication that benefits not only our organization, but the entire water utility industry."
The mission of WEAT and WEF is environmental education and stewardship. Association members have helped lead the way toward
existing state and federal clean water programs. Today WEAT has over 1500 members all of which are involved in protecting and
enhancing Texas' precious water resources through sound science and good stewardship.
