Birding Habitat of Westcave Preserve

Enjoy a walk through the Live Oak and Ashe juniper savanna containing golden-cheeked warbler nesting habitat. An overlook on the Pedernales River drops off to a fern covered canyon with a double waterfall and into a small overhang cave. Over 380 plants, 175 birds, and about 75 different butterflies have been recorded at Westcave Preserve. Considerations:

The hike is less than a mile in length but does require the ability to navigate a staircase (steps with a handrail). Participants should bring a water bottle. The visitor's center has bathrooms and some running water. Participants may choose to stay after the hike for a picnic, though food is only allowed in the picnic area. Cell phones need to be turned off during hike.

Limited to 15 individuals. All ages welcome.
