Rainbarrel Sales Program
Note: There will be no rainbarrel sales in August. Sales will resume in September. Questions? Please call 974-2199.
About the Rainbarrels
Rainbarrels distributed through the Water Conservation program hold 75 gallons and
are made of sturdy dark green polyethylene.
They are 3' tall and roughly 27" at the widest point. Rainbarrels come
with a debris screen and outflow hose, as well as an overflow tube. Find answers to frequently asked questions about rainbarrels here.
Rainbarrel Pickup
Rainbarrel sales will resume in September 2008. Note that rainbarrels will no longer be available on Thursdays.
Rain barrels are sold out of Waller Creek at 625 E. 10th Street on Wednesdays only (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) We are located just west of I-35
between the frontage road and Red River. Parking is available in the customer service zone or metered street spaces along 10th Street, and
there is limited visitor parking on the top floor of the parking garage. Please arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to
allow adequate time for processing and loading. Because of limited stock at the office location, we
recommend calling 974-2199 to confirm that barrels are available before you intend to pick up. On Fridays and Saturdays you can pick up
rain barrels at our warehouse at 6014 Techni Center Drive, Building 2 from 8 a.m. until noon. Below is a map to warehouse.
We do not offer a delivery service for rainbarrels.
Payment
Payments are accepted by mail or in person during sale hours.
Check, credit card and exact cash payments are accepted in person. To mail payment (and receive a
receipt for later pickup), send a completed application (pdf)
and your check or money order payable to City of Austin to
Water Conservation P.O. Box 1088 Austin, TX 78767.
Transport
Please bring a vehicle large enough to safely transport your rainbarrels. While some older cars can accomodate one barrel in the back seat, it is difficult to
load rainbarrels into most newer sedans due to the placement of door beams and the angle of the door
opening. You are responsible for loading rainbarrels into your vehicle. Austin Water Utility will not
be responsible for damage caused to vehicles or upholstery while transporting or attempting to load a rainbarrel.
Program Guidelines
When you purchase a rainbarrel at the AWU customer rate ($60), you agree to keep the barrel in use within the
AWU service area for a five-year period. If you would like to purchase a barrel without restrictions, you
may do so for $95 using our out-of-area application. Rainbarrels are intended for non-potable use only.
