Sherwood Oaks
Long Bow Storm Drain Improvements

The City of Austin has received many complaints of street and house flooding in the Sherwood Oaks Neighborhood. The flooding is caused by an old, inadequate storm drain system that does not have sufficient capacity during severe storms. The City of Austin has finished preliminary studies of flooding in this area and has developed a plan to improve the storm drain system. The City received funding through the November 2006 bond election to proceed with the design and construction of this project.

The City is proposing to install new underground pipes along Long Bow Lane, Carnarvon Lane, Sherwood Lane, Friar Tuck Lane, East Side Drive and St. Edwards Drive. Download a map of the proposed pipes (2.8 MB pdf).

This proposal does not call for a detention pond at St. Edward's University. The City of Austin considered an option that called for a detention pond in addition to underground pipes, but a detention pond is not part of the university's master plan. However, the current proposal includes larger pipes that will be just as effective at preventing flooding.

Public Meeting
A public meeting about the project will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, at the Travis High School cafeteria, 1211 E. Oltorf Street. Download a copy of the presentation (500 KB pdf).
