| The
Barton Creek Study is designed to monitor the impact on stream
health from urbanization activities such as large scale land developments,
golf courses and residential runoff, wastewater disposal and cattle
ranching. Attempts are made to identify problems through changes
in water chemistry, biological communities and physical habitat.
Sampling is performed in both recharge and contributing zones,
from the headwaters in Hays County to Barton Springs Pool. Nutrients, bacteria,
and suspended sediments are among the water quality parameters monitored. Biological surveys include macroinvertibrate
and diatom communities. Habitat is assessed using both visual
and quantitative measures. |
